Multifactor authentication

2 minute read

If you access the CloudBees platform with a CloudBees username and password, use multifactor authentication (MFA) to secure your CloudBees platform account.

You can only use CloudBees multifactor authentication if you access the CloudBees platform with a CloudBees username and password. If you use Google social or GitHub OAuth credentials, you must set up multifactor authentication through Google or GitHub, respectively.

Enabling MFA

The additional authentication step with multifactor authentication provides more security than a single account password. To use multifactor authentication, you must have a third-party authentication app, such as Google Authenticator, installed on your phone.

To enable MFA:

  1. Select your name in the right corner of the title bar.

  2. Select Edit profile.

  3. Select ENABLE MULTIFACTOR AUTHENTICATION to display a QR code.

  4. Open the authentication app on your phone, and then add a new account to the app.

  5. In your authentication app, select the option to scan a QR code.

  6. Hold your phone up to your computer screen so that it can scan the CloudBees QR code. Once it scans, a code appears on your phone.

  7. In the CloudBees platform, select Enter code. Enter the code displayed in the authentication app, and then select CONTINUE.

  8. A single-use recovery code is displayed. The recovery code enables you to sign in to CloudBees platform without your phone. Copy the code somewhere safe, and then select OK.

You have added MFA with your authentication app to your platform account, and you have a recovery code saved in case you lose access to your phone.

Signing in with MFA

To use MFA, sign in to the platform as usual with your CloudBees username and password, and then enter a verification code from your authentication app.

To sign in with MFA:

  1. Sign in with your CloudBees username and password.

  2. Enter the verification code from your authentication app.

  3. Select the .

You are signed in to the platform using MFA.

Signing in with an MFA recovery code

If you lose access to your device, you can still sign in to the platform using a recovery code.

To sign in with a recovery code:

  1. Sign in with your CloudBees username and password.

  2. Select Use the recovery code.

  3. Enter your recovery code from Enabling MFA.

Any recovery code that is used to sign in to the platform cannot be reused.
  4. Copy the displayed new recovery code somewhere safe.

  5. Select I have safely recorded this code.

  6. Select the .

You are signed in to the platform using your MFA recovery code, and have saved a copy of your new recovery code.

Disabling MFA

To disable multifactor authentication:

  1. Select your name in the right corner of the title bar.

  2. Select Edit profile.

  3. Select DISABLE MULTIFACTOR AUTHENTICATION.

  4. Select DISABLE. Refresh your browser.

Multifactor authentication is no longer available for your account.
