This section describes the various installation interfaces and available options for specific platform types.

User interface installation process

This process provides an installation wizard to install CloudBees CD/RO on a supported server platform. The following installation options are generally preferred by Windows users, but they are also supported on Linux platforms with the X Window system installed.

The installation options are:

  • Express Server

This option installs the CloudBees CD/RO server, built-in database, web server, and repository server on one machine. The default CloudBees CD/RO server settings are used. A local agent (required for running jobs), and CloudBees CD/RO tools are also installed.

This option is available via a “full” installer file (refer to CloudBees CD/RO installer files). This option is best for quickly installing the CloudBees CD/RO software for evaluation purposes.

CloudBees CD/RO ships with a demo license, which limits the software to two concurrent job steps and the CloudBees CD/RO-provided built-in database. Running CloudBees CD/RO on a single machine with the demo license is not recommended for a production environment. Additionally, the built-in database is not supported in a clustered CloudBees CD/RO configuration.

In a production configuration, connect CloudBees CD/RO to an external database. If CloudBees CD/RO is installed with the built-in database, you can reconfigure it to use an external database at any time. For a list of alternate databases supported by CloudBees CD/RO, refer to Supported databases. For more information and configuration instructions, refer to Configure an external database.

Using an external database requires a CloudBees CD/RO enterprise license. You must configure an external database at the same time as you install your enterprise license to prevent error messages about an unsupported configuration or a license requirement.

  • Express Agent This option installs a CloudBees CD/RO agent and CloudBees CD/RO tools. This option is available via a “full” installer file (refer to Install CloudBees CD/RO on traditional platforms). Use this option for managed hosts where you want to run job steps.

  • Advanced This option installs individual components, directories, or ports of your choice. This option is available via one of the “full” installer files (refer to Install CloudBees CD/RO on traditional platforms).

    • Use this option to install any combination of your choice among the CloudBees CD/RO server, built-in database, web server, and repository server. (A local agent and CloudBees CD/RO tools are required and are automatically installed.)

  • CloudBees Analytics Server

Installs the CloudBees Analytics server. This option requires the CloudBees Analytics-only installer file (refer to CloudBees CD/RO installer files).

This option includes the ability to add CloudBees Analytics servers to a CloudBees Analytics cluster. For more information, refer to Install the CloudBees Analytics server in cluster mode.

  • 32-Bit Agent-Only (Windows Only)

Installs a 32-bit CloudBees CD/RO agent. This option is available via the 32-bit agent-only installer file (refer to CloudBees CD/RO installer files). Use this option for managed hosts where you want to run job steps.

This option is useful for installing a single agent. To install multiple agents, CloudBees recommends that you use Silent unattended installation.

  • “Pure” 64-Bit Agent-Only (Linux Only)

Installs a “pure” 64-bit CloudBees CD/RO agent. This option is available via the “pure” 64-bit agent-only Linux installer file (refer to CloudBees CD/RO installer files).

Use this option for managed hosts where you want to run job steps. This option is for installing a single agent. To install multiple agents, CloudBees recommends that you use Silent unattended installation.

  • “Pseudo” 64-Bit Agent-Only (Windows Only)

Installs a “pseudo” 64-bit CloudBees CD/RO agent. This option is available via the “pseudo” 64-bit agent-only Windows installer file (refer to CloudBees CD/RO installer files). Use this option for managed hosts where you want to run job steps.

This option is useful for installing a single agent. To install multiple agents, CloudBees recommends that you use Silent unattended installation.

Interactive command-line installation process (Linux only)

These installation options provide an interactive command line for installing CloudBees CD/RO on a supported server platform. These installation methods are available only for Linux platforms.

This option is useful for installing a single agent. To install multiple agents, CloudBees recommends that you use Silent unattended installation.

Silent unattended installation

These installation options provide a non-interactive command-line installation for supported server platforms. For a list of these options and the installers required for them, refer to CloudBees CD/RO Installer Files.

You might find this installation process preferable for installing multiple remote agents, servers, or CloudBees Analytics servers. This installation includes the ability to add CloudBees Analytics servers to a CloudBees Analytics cluster.

The installation options are:

Non-server platform agent interface

This is a command-line interface for installing the CloudBees CD/RO agent and tool software only on supported non-server platforms.

The installations options are:

  • Command-line agent

Installs an agent from a UNIX command-line installer.

  • Silent agent

Runs unattended (silent) installations with the UNIX installer.
