Get started with DevOps analytics

2 minute read

Connect your first tools to CloudBees Unify analytics to see how the platform provides insights into your software delivery lifecycle. This walkthrough shows you the basic analytics integration workflow using existing CI tools and repositories.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

  • A CloudBees Unify organization with integration permissions.

  • A GitHub or Bitbucket account with active repositories.

  • Access to a Jenkins instance or GitHub Actions workflows (optional for advanced insights).

  • A Jira account for flow metrics setup (optional).

For complete technical requirements, refer to CloudBees Unify technical requirements reference.

Connect your first analytics integration

  1. Set up SCM integration for software delivery activity insights.

Navigate to Configurations  Integrations and create an integration for your GitHub or Bitbucket account. This enables CloudBees Unify to track code activity, commit patterns, and repository metrics.

  2. Create components linked to active repositories.

Navigate to Software Delivery  Components and create components for repositories with regular development activity. CloudBees Unify begins analyzing code activity and generating software delivery metrics automatically.

  3. Set up workflows to enable DORA metrics collection.

Create or connect CloudBees Unify workflows to your components. Use CloudBees workflows or GitHub Actions integration to enable deployment frequency and change failure rate tracking.

  4. (Optional) Configure Jira integration for flow metrics.

If you use Jira for project management, navigate to Configurations  Integrations and set up Jira integration. This enables flow metrics that connect development work to business outcomes.

  5. View your analytics dashboards.

Navigate to the Analytics section to review your dashboards:

    • Check Software Delivery Activity for repository and development team insights.

    • Review DORA Metrics for deployment frequency and performance indicators.

    • Access Flow Metrics (if Jira is connected) for issue lifecycle analysis.

CloudBees Unify continues collecting analytics data automatically as your teams work, providing ongoing visibility into delivery performance.

What you accomplished

You’ve experienced the basic DevOps analytics workflow:

  • Tool integration that connects existing development tools to centralized analytics.

  • Automatic data collection from repositories and workflows without manual metric configuration.

  • Multi-dashboard insights spanning development activity, deployment performance, and business outcomes.

  • Unified analytics view that aggregates data across different tools and teams.

This foundation enables you to explore advanced analytics features like custom metrics, trend analysis, and organization-wide performance reporting.
